Setup guide
About 15 minutes. Jump to Shopify, WordPress and WooCommerce, any website or let an AI agent do it.
1. Publish your notice and get your site key
- Sign in with your email and add your business.
- Answer the questions about your business and click Publish version 1. This also puts your privacy page live at
nodd.in/p/your-business. - Open Consent from the top menu and click Copy site key.
The banner stays hidden until a notice is published, because it links to it.
2a. Shopify
The nodd app is on its way to the Shopify App Store. Until then, add the script to your theme by hand:
- In Shopify admin go to Online Store → Themes, open the … menu on your live theme and choose Edit code.
- Open
layout/theme.liquidand paste the script on the line right after<head>. Save. - In Settings → Customer privacy, ask for consent before tracking in the regions you sell to. nodd passes each choice to Shopify, so its own analytics, pixels and apps wait for it.
- On nodd.in, open Consent and add your
your-store.myshopify.comaddress under Other domains, so choices made there are recorded too.
<script src="https://nodd.in/w.js" data-site="YOUR-SITE-KEY"></script>2b. WordPress and WooCommerce
Use the free nodd Consent plugin from the WordPress plugin directory:
- Go to Plugins → Add New, search for nodd Consent, then install and activate it.
- Open Settings → nodd, paste your site key and save. The page tells you when it is connected.
The plugin holds back Google Analytics, Tag Manager, Google Ads, Meta Pixel, Hotjar, Clarity and similar tags added through WordPress, and points your privacy policy link to your privacy page on nodd.in. Add [nodd_privacy_settings] to your footer for a link that reopens the choices.
Trackers pasted into your theme as raw HTML still need step 3 below.
2c. Any website
Paste the script first inside <head> on every page, before Google, Meta or other tracking tags. Don't add async or defer to it: it has to run before the trackers do.
<script src="https://nodd.in/w.js" data-site="YOUR-SITE-KEY"></script>3. Hold back trackers until people agree
For each analytics or marketing tag, change type to text/plain and add data-nodd="analytics" or data-nodd="marketing". nodd runs it once the visitor allows that category. This works for inline scripts too. Google tags also get Consent Mode v2 signals automatically.
<!-- before -->
<script async src="https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=G-XXXX"></script>
<!-- after -->
<script type="text/plain" data-nodd="analytics" async src="https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=G-XXXX"></script>Leave scripts your site needs to work, like payments, cart, login and chat, as they are.
4. Let people change their mind
After the first choice, a Privacy settings button appears on every page. Any element with data-nodd-open opens the choices too, for example a footer link:
<a href="#" data-nodd-open>Privacy settings</a>5. More than one domain
The banner records choices only on the website in your notice and its subdomains. If your site also runs on another address, like a myshopify.com store or a second domain, add it under Other domains on the Consent page.
6. Check that it works
- Open your site in a private window. The banner should appear at the bottom.
- Choose an option, then open Consent on nodd.in. Your choice shows up in the consent log.
- Reload the page. The banner shouldn't ask again, and the Privacy settings button should be there.
Let an AI agent do it
If an AI coding agent or a developer works on your site's code, give them this instead of doing steps 2 to 4 yourself. Replace YOUR-SITE-KEY with your key, or copy the prompt from the Consent page on nodd.in, where your key is already filled in.
Add the nodd consent banner to this website. nodd asks visitors before analytics and marketing tools run and records their choice, for India's DPDP Act.
1. Put this tag first inside <head> on every page, before any Google, Meta or other tracking tag. Do not add async or defer:
<script src="https://nodd.in/w.js" data-site="YOUR-SITE-KEY"></script>
Where: Shopify, layout/theme.liquid. WordPress, the theme's header (or install the "nodd Consent" plugin and enter the site key instead). Next.js or React, the root layout's <head>. Plain HTML, every page.
2. Find every analytics or marketing tag: Google Analytics or gtag, Google Tag Manager, Google Ads, Meta Pixel, Hotjar, Microsoft Clarity, LinkedIn, TikTok and similar. On each <script>, inline or with src, set type="text/plain" and add data-nodd="analytics" (measurement) or data-nodd="marketing" (ads and retargeting). nodd runs them once the visitor agrees. Leave scripts the site needs to work (payments, cart, login, chat) unchanged.
3. Add a link in the footer so visitors can change their choice later:
<a href="#" data-nodd-open>Privacy settings</a>
4. Change nothing else. When done, list each file you changed and each tag you held back, with the category you chose.Check its list of held-back tags before you publish, then do step 6.
